Alford Fields Farm, owned by Catherine Pickford are an award-winning dairy farm with 400 spring-calving cows and has settled on a low-cost approach that allows them to develop a young team of workers. Catherine’s passion is to nurture young talent. She is helping herd manager Nathan Crocker to build equity by buying cows in her herd.

The Situation

Catherine approached James as they were in search of two potential Assistant Herdspersons for their dairy team. Catherine and her team are offering a good work-life balance alongside a genuine commitment to all staff members’ future development.

The Task

REAL Success recruitment manager James was able to have a couple of detailed phone calls with both Catherine & Nathan. James was able to fully understand Alford Fields Farm, their mission for the future and the type of person they were looking for.   • Job description and advert created, then sent to Catherine for approval, which was then posted on Indeed.
  • Social Media posts created and distributed across different platforms.
  • James screened, phoned and reference checked all applicants.
  • Candidates sent over to Nathan with details & CV’s.
  • Nathan then communicated with James the candidates they would like to see on farm for an interview. Nathan gave James some available interview dates and James then contacted the candidates to book these in, also sending the clients all the available information regarding Alford Fields Farm.
  • These candidates were then sent Vita profiles, which helps us understand how they like to work and be managed.
  • James was able to source two potential candidates, who were a couple. They attended an on farm interview and were then both offered the role after references.
  • James then sent an offer letter & contract of employment to both candidates which was signed and sent to Catherine.
  • Throughout the recruitment process, constant communication was kept between James, Nathan & Catherine, to ensure the smoothest and quickest process.
  • One month after the two candidates started, James contacted Catherine to check up on how they have settled in. Catherine informed James they had settled in well and everything is positive.

The Result

  • The overall result was that two candidates were hired successfully for Catherine’s business.
