Herd Manager – Cirencester, Gloucestershire

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Herd Manager to join our dairy enterprise in Cirencester, Gloucestershire.

NOTE – You will be working directly for the farm, not through REAL Success.

Our Farm

Our business is a large diverse farming estate, which involves different exciting enterprises across 4000ha. The dairy consists of 320 high-yielding Holstein cows who are milked twice a day through a 36/36 rapid exit parlour, with all their milk supplied directly to Sainsbury’s. The herd are housed & calved all-year-round, with all records kept up to date using Uniform. The dairy unit has excellent modern facilities and infrastructure, with more exciting investment plans in the works.

You will be part of a wider team, with the estate also consisting of Arable operations, an AD plant for renewable energy, conservation, property and more. This is an opportunity to join a business which proves its passion for animal welfare, sustainability and training.

Your Role

Working alongside the Farm Manager, your roles and responsibilities will include.

– Day-to-day running of the dairy farm operation – managing the dairy, milking, clamp management and ensuring cow health and welfare is the top priority.

– Liaise with the Farm Manager to achieve agreed KPIs, financial budgets, and herd targets

– Overall staff management of the dairy team, including staff rotas and training.

– Taking full responsibility for dry cow management, calving cows and colostrum protocols.

– Maintain and build strong working relationships with consultants, vets and nutritionists.

– Undertake proactive management of health and safety standards across the farm estate.

– Working closely with the Farm Manager to develop and implement the future strategy for the dairy.

– Ensuring the farm is kept tidy and safe to operate at all times

– Maintenace for the dairy and machinery

Qualifications & Licenses required

– A full UK Driving license.

– Proof of UK right to work

– Foot trimming & AI qualification

– Telehandler & Forklift License preffered


The successful candidate will:

– Demonstrate strong previous experience in agriculture and dairy management

– Share our passion for cows and the wider business

– Have experience in leading a team on a day-to-day basis to achieve agreed targets

– Be able to manage the farm’s finances and costs accordingly

– Be adaptable in different scenarios and always look to bring new ideas

– Have the confidence and energy to effectively lead the team
