Cheese Maker – Marchamley, Shrewsbury, Shropshire

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Cheese Maker to join our dairy in Marchamley, Shrewsbury. We’re looking for someone to work with our committed and enthusiastic team who make award-winning cheese, sold internationally.

Our Farm

We are a grazing farm and have 350 Autumn calved cows which are milked twice a day. The milk produced goes into our artisan and traditional cheeses and whey butter, which are made on the farm in one of the last ‘farmhouse’ cheese dairy’s left. You will see first-hand how passion and care in milk production helps us produce our award-winning cheeses.

The farm has undergone a conversion towards a more regenerative and sustainable way of farming. The fresh, raw milk is the master ingredient, to which we add traditional cultures, rennet, salt from the Cheshire Plains and the extract of the annatto seed, which gives our Red Cheshire it’s warm sunrise colour.

Your Role

As a Cheese Maker, you will be working to a high standard in a friendly team, with day-to-day responsibilities including:

– Assisting in all aspects of cheese making, including preparation, filling moulds and wrapping cheese

– Maintaining a high level of personal hygiene and adhering to hygiene standards. Washing and cleaning all equipment, tools and facilities daily

– Organising, labelling and assembling orders, including wrapping and packaging the cheese.

– Working closely with the senior team to identify issues with quality, hygiene or facilities

– Basic maintenance of machinery and equipment

– Office work and administration when required

Overall upholding the high standards and expectations of the business.

The working hours for this role are Monday – Friday 06:30 – 15:00, with weekend work required at busier periods. The job consists of mainly early morning starts which may vary depending on the tasks needing to be completed each day.

A full UK right to work is required for this role. You will also need to be able to work standing for long periods of time, work in cold or warm conditions and be able to lift repeatedly throughout the day.


Cheese-making experience is preferred but not essential as full training will be given to the successful candidate. However, a positive attitude is a must. You will need to be fit and energetic with an excellence of cleanliness and hygiene. We are looking for someone who is eager to learn, organised and has a passion to succeed. You will be happy working alone or part of a team and take pride in your work.
