J & S Dairying LTD - Bellaport Lodge Farm

Background:

Bellaport Lodge farm is 172 Hectares and is based in the picturesque village of Norton in Hales operating a paddock based grazing system for an Autumn block calving herd of 350 Friesian cross-bred cows milked twice daily.

The Situation:

Jason Lord approached James at REAL Success to discuss the need for a new Herdsperson. James was able to explain the full recruitment service, how REAL Success is different and how they can support.

The Task:

James had a few detailed conversations with Jason to establish the person they were looking to bring into their team. Also outlining all the information required about their farm, their values and plans for this role. Having all the information required, James was then able to build a detailed job advert and get the recruitment process started.

Action:

  • Job description and advert created, which was then posted on Indeed and the REAL Success website.
  • Social Media posts created and distributed across different Facebook groups.
  • The recruitment team then screened and contacted by phone all applicants.
  • A shortlist of candidates was sent over to Jason with details, CV’s and cover letters.
  • References were contacted and sent to Jason.
  • Jason communicated with the team whom he would like to the next stage and interview.
  • These candidates were then sent Vita profiles, which helps us understand how they like to work and be managed.
  • The recruitment team organised the interviews, supporting both Jason and the candidate.
  • These candidates then attended on farm interviews, with Jason providing feedback to James to discuss.
  • After a few different candidates were interviewed, one candidate was chosen as the right fit for the team.
  • This candidate was sent a detailed job offer letter and contract of employment.
  • The candidate then started one month later following his notice period, with James supporting with the induction and settling in process.
  • Throughout the recruitment process, constant communication was kept between Jason and James, to ensure the smoothest process. James would offer advice and support whenever he could.

Results:

  • A successful result as an excellent individual was hired for Bellaport Lodge farm, who has had a strong start to his career with Jason.
  • James has offered to visit Jason on the farm to see how else he can support him. REAL Success is now also advertising for a new role with Jason.
